Basaksehir City Hospital Istanbul

A 2,682-bed city hospital in Istanbul — one of Türkiye’s largest public-private partnership healthcare developments — required extensive below-grade and podium-level construction across a total built area exceeding one million square meters. The complex houses multiple treatment blocks, diagnostic centers, emergency facilities, and administrative buildings connected by shared basement levels containing parking for over 8,000 vehicles, service corridors, and MEP distribution zones. Conventional granular fill across the car park ramps, sunken slab areas in wet rooms across hundreds of patient rooms, landscape terraces, and foundation perimeter zones would have imposed significant dead load on the raft foundations and extended the construction schedule by weeks. Disposable void formwork was applied across approximately 35,000 m² of fill area, creating lightweight reinforced concrete raised surfaces at a fraction of the weight of traditional fill. The void spaces beneath finished floors in service areas also provided accessible routes for the hospital’s extensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing networks — a critical requirement in healthcare buildings where MEP density per square meter is three to five times higher than commercial buildings. This application represents a typical use of disposable formwork in large-scale healthcare infrastructure — the same systems TurStructure supplies and supports on site for hospital and public building projects.
