Galataport Istanbul — Void Formwork Case Study

Galataport Istanbul is a landmark 400,000 m² waterfront development stretching 1.2 kilometers along the Bosphorus in the historic Karaköy district. Developed by Doğuş Group and Bilgili Holding with an investment of USD 1.7 billion, the project features the world’s first underground cruise terminal, the Renzo Piano-designed Istanbul Modern art museum, The Peninsula Istanbul hotel, and over 250 retail and dining venues. Reconnecting the city with a coastline closed to the public for decades, the project required extensive ground-level construction including landscaped plazas, raised pedestrian platforms, and podium areas above below-grade service and terminal infrastructure. Disposable void formwork was applied across multiple landscape and raised floor zones to create lightweight reinforced concrete surfaces without imposing excessive dead load on the waterfront substructure. This application illustrates how void formwork technology delivers structural efficiency in premium urban mixed-use environments — the same systems TurStructure supplies and supports on site for waterfront, hospitality, and commercial developments worldwide.
